REVIEW: Wicked Celebrates 10 Years on Broadway

January 8, 2014 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment

WICKED is celebrating its 10th Anniversary on Broadway which is quite a feat for a Broadway show to run this long. WICKED has won over 50 major awards, including the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards. It’s the show that brought Idina Mendzel and Kristen Chenowith world-wide fame.

Wicked on Broadway

WICKED is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery, and misunderstood and the other is beautiful, ambitious, and very popular, Glinda, The Good. Wicked recounts  the story of their remarkable odyssey and how these two unlikely friends grow to become the iconic The Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.

Wicked Musical

If you haven’t seen what  The New York Times calls  “Broadway’s Biggest Blockbuster”, then definitely make it a must do in 2014. The Gershwin Theatre, WICKED’s home for the past ten years, has been newly renovated and boasts new seats, new carpets and new bathrooms (oh my!).

We recently saw Wicked (for the second time) and boy, it’s just as entertaining, funny, witty and well-done production as any show that I have seen on Broadway.  I really do love the plot line and how the show details an entire back story to what most of  us remember from the iconic movie, The Wizard of Oz written by Frank Baum. And as music goes, it really is quite stupendous. Of course, the crowd favorite is Defying Gravity sung by the Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West.) I highly recommend Wicked whether you have seen it in the past or have never seen it, it is so worth it. The show is recommended age for children is 8 and up. No children under 5 admitted.
