Celebrating 50th Anniversary of the Roald Dahl book, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY

February 3, 2015 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment

This past week, my daughter and I attended an event hosted by Milk + Bookies at our favorite Candy store, Dylan’s Candy Bar to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Roald Dahl book, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY.

Willy Wonka was there along with chocolate fountains and golden tickets.

Willy Wonka Allie CatDuring the event, there was a reading of the book from actors Christian Campbell (Supernatural),  Aaron Yoo (The Tommorrow People), Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Rohan Chand (Lone Survivor and Homeland), America Olivo(Friday the 13th) and Willy Wonka.

Willy Wonka Reading

Before the event, we donated several books to Milk + Bookies, a nationwide charitable organization that inspires children to give back, using books as its currency and facilitates opportunities for children to raise book donations and give back to their peers who do not have access to books of their own.

Has your child read Roald Dahl’s Charlie and Chocolate Factory?

I loved this book, & the movies. I think I like the Gene Wilder version better than the Johnny Depp, though.

My older daughter read the Dahl book, but I never did. I LOVE the original movie though and remember going to see it in the theater with my mother and sisters when it first came out. I didn’t expect to like the remake with Johnny Depp but I actually did like the darker take on it.

I used to love Ronald Dahl as a kid, every kid should read his books. I think I read all of them except maybe one or two.

I don’t have kids of my own…so I don’t know if they have seen the movie. They are to young to read the books.

I remember reading the book with the kids, but they much preferred James and the Giant Peach.
And I also think the original movie is the best.
