@Marvel Agent Carter Set Visit

January 26, 2016 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment

After an enjoyable interview with the stars of Marvel’s Agent Carter Hayley Atwell (“Agent Peggy Carter”),  James D’Arcy (“Edwin Jarvis”) and the show’s Executive Producers  Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, we were given a behind the scenes tour of the Agent Carter set followed by a  chat with the show’s Costume Designer GiGi Melton.

Wandering the set, I was struck by the attention to detail the show pays to showing the artifacts from 40’s era. It was definitely a step back in time.  It was just so pitch perfect making it so easy for the actor to envision they are living during the time period.

You can see that the furniture and office supplies are authentic. Goodness, look at the phone and typewriter.

The highlight of our Behind the Scenes set visit was being able to check out the  costumes in the “Agent Carter” Costumes Department and chat with Costume Designer GiGi Melton. Gigi really provided insight into what it takes to pull together costumes for the entire cast from the leads to the extras. And with the show shooting 2 episodes each 10-15 days, that means her small group of costumers has to do research, find vintage clothes, or fabrics to make the clothes for each episode.   Talk about condensed pressure.

Fun Facts about Marvel’s Agent Carter Costumes

  • Every major Agent Carter lead actor has an inspiration board that defines their look.

  • Prepping each show’s costumes starts with the script.

Agent Carter Clothes

  • Every costume has multiples of each outfit to account for tears, rips, food accidents during meal scenes,  stunts that go wrong and for the actor’s stunt double.

Agent Carter Mens Costumes

  • Accessories are re-purposed for future outfits because things like vintage buttons are hard to find.

  • The show only uses fabrics from the show’s era and will dye clothes to match colors that were used during that time period
  • The shoes are also vintage
  • Peggy’s signature red hat is a Stetson called the Aviatrix.

And when you visit a television set like Agent Carter, who can resist all the photo ops.
