Whitney Museum Featuring Grant Wood American Gothic
Headed to Chelsea, then don’t miss visiting The Whitney Museum of American Art. It goes without saying that the Whitney collection offers visitors the preeminent American artists across a range of genres. That said go with an open mind. I always walk out from a few exhibitions with the “was that really art.” What I love about the Whitney is that it is not overwhelming and the city views from the outside decks are amazing. Great photo opps for sure. You can either start your visit at The Whitney and then walk the Highline Park or vice versa.
Until June 10, definitely, add going to The Whitney Museum of American Art to see the Grant Wood Collection. Grant Wood, who!! Come on!! Maybe you don’t’ know or remember the name but you know his iconic and famous American Gothic!!
As with many artists that has the one recognizable painting, Grant Wood actually had a very prolific career. You will see in the exhibit a wide range of his art from early Arts and Crafts decorative objects including stain glass windows and impressionist oils. The exhibit reveals a complex and sophisticated artist that should not be defined by his most famous artwork, American Gothic.
Grant Wood: American Gothic and Other Fables is on view until June 10.
