I loved my parents very much and I think my siblings would agree that they were good parents. Before you get the idea they were perfect, they were not. There were topics they just plain ignored either because it was their nature, their culture or the times. My mother was Japanese and god forbid, boys, sex or anything controversial was ever discussed. That’s the culture she was raised in, no judgments.
So it’s only normal that I have the squemies when it comes to discussing sex, biology or boys with my daughter. But we are living In a different time and I am not my mother (ok, I am my mother in many ways, but that’s another post) and so being an Ambassador for the U by Kotex Tween program has been an amazing and fulfilling experience.
The Ambassador for the U by Kotex Tween program is designed to help moms of tween girls prepare themselves and their daughters for their upcoming periods and provide resources to help me (and all other moms and dads) to prepare for those what I consider squeamy talks for that inevitable day which could be tomorrow, next month, next year but will happen whether I like it or not. The one thing I wanted for her was for her to avoid the scary feeling of not being able to turn to the one person she should always be able to trust with her questions when the time does happen, me.
While I can’t say I am an expert, I am smart enough to know that U By Kotex is an excellent resource for me now and in the future. Let’s face it, I am making it up as I go and so far so good (until the tell-all book comes out.) I feel comfortable in recommending the site to my friends, my daughter and her friends.
I am happy that I was part of the Ambassador for the U by Kotex Tween program because I seriously wonder how long it would have taken me to have all the Talks that I had with my daughter. I know that I feel much more comfortable in talking to herwhich is all one can ask when they are the parent of tween girl. And for the record, she still does the stick her fingers in the ear, “la, la, la, I can’t hear you” when I bring up anything that has to do with puberty.
Just a reminder to visit the U by Kotex website page for period questions that could be helpful for tweens and teens.
Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
