Visiting Sea World is a must see attraction when visiting San Diego. This is wonderful opportunity for you and your family to connect with the sea and really get up and personal with some amazing aquatic animals. We really enjoyed getting so close to the marine life and had the opportunity to really enjoy a good laugh at the Clyde and Seamore show and of course for my daughter, the rides were a plus.
7 Must See Attractions at Sea World
1. Shamu One Ocean Show
Seeing the Shamu and the other orcas is iconic and a must see attraction. The show has been updated so you won’t see trainers in the water with animals which I will be honest was a concern for my daughter and me. Along with just being that close to whales, the show was pretty spectacular to see up close. And of course, don’t forget that the closer you sit, the odds are pretty great you will get wet. Take the Splash Zone seating seriously, you will get wet.
2. Petting Bamboo Sharks at Explorers Reef
What is really amazing is the interactive experience that the kids can have at Sea World. We barely entered the park, when my daughter noticed Explorer’s Reef. It was so cool for her to be able to touch the bamboo sharks plus see sting rays and other aquatic animals. This was a highlight of the park.
3. Manta® Ride
What is there to say, if you or child likes roller coaster, riding the Manta is a must. There are definitely lots of twists and turns that are sure to keep the roller coaster fan happy.
4. Journey to Atlantis Water Ride
Who doesn’t love a water ride that offers roller coaster action through the lost city of Atlantis and ends with a watery 60 foot plunge. Definitely a plus to get wet in hot weather.
5. Petting Dolpins at Dolphin Point
You can really see Dolphins truly up close and person in an open water pool. Definitely get there early so you or your child can get be close to the front and are able to pet the dolphins.
6. Clyde and Seamore Comedy Show at the Sea Lions Show
Going to see the Sea Lion show was the reason we headed to the Sea Lion show and it was a lot of fun but the highlight was the Clyde and Seamore Comedy Show. I don’t usually like these shows as I think they are fillers for the real action the Sea Lion show but wow this show was really, really funny. And my daughter was enamored with Op the Otter.
7. Taking Campy Photos
Taking campy photos may not be an attraction, but how can you resist taking them.
And don’t miss the chance to check out polar bears, penguins, and other aquatic animals or take a spin on the Shipwreck Rapids.
If you are visiting San Diego, Sea World San Diego should be on your list of places to visit as it offers you the opportunity to get up and close personal with so many aquatic animals and to learn about marine life.
Visit Sea World San Diego for more information, directions and tickets.
Finally, I can not write this post without the mention of the documentary Blackfish. Agreed that when my daughter and I saw the documentary, I was very much upset and very much against visiting Sea World. That said, no longer are trainers allowed in the pools with the Orca whales and the fact that Sea World has done much for aquatic research that informed my decision to visit the park. As I mentioned, above the fact that guests can interact with many of the aquatic animals provides visitors with a real life interaction that goes beyond seeing them on the internet or in books.
