Charming and Talented Tom Hiddleston Talks Loki Thor The Dark World #‎LokisLadies‬ ‪#‎FreeLoki‬ #ThorDarkWorldEvent @twhiddleston

November 11, 2013 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment, Movies

From the moment, he entered the room, Tom Hiddleston owned the room. And how could he not, handsome, charming, witty and funny all are qualities that you hope an interviewee has and Tom Hiddleston certainly  does, which makes it all the more understandable why he and his character Loki in Marvel’s Thor, Marvel’s The Avengers and the recently released Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World“ is such a fan favorite.

Even as he sat to begin the interview he referenced that playing a bad guy that he “should be sitting here with a white cat and  stroking it.”  A hilarious sight gag from a classically trained British actor, I must say.

And if you want to win over a room full of women (and one man) interrupt the interview and them “how beautiful” they look right before they hit the Red Carpet premiere of Thor: The Dark World.

Hiddleston expressed why he likes playing Loki so much, “Thor is the God of Thunder and Loki is the God of Mischief and his mischief is the thing that I love playing so much. His playfulness, his sense of fun, and the challenge of course is to make him real, and vulnerable and complex.”

Sometimes characters never change from movie to movie but that is  not the case for Loki whose circumstances and attitude is very different from the first Thor movie which Hiddleston made note of, “He’s basically been written out of history, condemned to be forgotten, unseen, unheard and haunted by his demons for eternity. I think he’s keeping himself sharp by reading a lot and keeping his mind exercised.”

What I found utterly refreshing about Hiddleston is how this classically  trained British actor went  from being a virtual unknown to a worldwide phenomenon in a major Marvel movie, yet talked about how he felt a sense of pride and chemistry  about his relationship with Chris Hemsworth. “We met in 2009, we were both in our late ’20s, we’d been kicking around the business for the same amount of time. We became very firm and fast friends. And we’ve had this amazing adventure together. And I think our friendship really infuses the Thor/Loki relationship in this film and that’s probably my greatest pride.”

And now for the personal touch which again, it’s hard not to talk about how charming he is and yes, having a British accent helps.  I had to ask about his surprising a New York audience of kids who were literally were seeing Thor before the official U.S. opening.  Hiddleston said, “It seemed like nothing to stop off in New York  and introduce that.  I’ve done some work with UNICEF and I believe very passionately in the work that charities like Variety and The Children’s Aide Society do for children as well.” Awww!

As if interviewing Tom Hiddleston in all his charming British self wasn’t enough, here are  4 Fun Facts I learned about the mischievous Loki:

  1. He keeps “fridgy”  things like  green vegetables,  butter, and a few eggs in his refrigerator when is not traveling.
  2. He learned about superheroes from playing an English game  called “Top Trumps.”
  3. He does impressions of famous actors reading Loki lines (his Christopher Walken was hilarious, sadly, we have no video.)
  4. Hiddleston will play the young James Hook (aka Captain Hook) in the Pirate Fairy, the fifth film in the DisneyToons Tinker Bell series and is set to be released in 2014. And yes, he will sing in the movie.

Check out my review of Thor: The Dark World which is in theaters now and yes, it’s worth seeing both Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as they  restore order across the cosmos against an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith who returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.
