Today Show With Kathie Lee and Billy Ray Cyrus @TodayShow

 

Who doesn’t want to be on The Today Show? Apparently, not Sara Palin. But I digress as this was my daughter and her friend’s big moment.   My daughter along with her classmates and SelfishMom’s son and daughter were on The Today Show with Kathie Lee Gifford and guest co-host Billy Ray Cyrus (Hoda Kotb was on vacation.) The segment was demonstrating indoor activities for Spring Break and rainy days and was led  by Mary Giles, the Deputy Editor of Family Fun magazine.

Who wouldn’t be excited, even though the kids had no idea who Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb were, but hey it  was The Today Show a chance to be on television. Of course, when my daughter found out Billy Ray Cyrus was the co-host, screaming and hysterics ensued. Sorry Hoda, but Miley Cyrus’s dad is a more famous than you with the tween set.

The Today Show staff are just the nicest people. They send a car for you which of course for this non-driving family is a treat.

The one thing about an black SUV with tinted windows is that no one can see into the car so when we arrived, there was a pack of paparazzi who literally started taking photos the minute the door opened. My friend and I were like tad a! here come the real stars and then the girls came out and the cameras started flashing. It was hilarious. And who were they waiting for, Shannen Doherty. As one photographer said, “you will be a lot nicer than she will be.”

As we waited in the green room filled with publicists, we saw Giuliana and Bill Rancic, Wilson Phillips and of course, Shannen Doherty. Needless to say they whizzed by us and straight into their rooms. Didn’t see the real stars of the show, the kids.  P.S. Yes, Guiliana Rancic is rail thin, in fact so is Bill Rancic and Carnie Wilson is not.

Once we got up to the studio, Kathie Lee and Billy Ray were finishing up a segment with Giulana and Bill, so of course, my daughter goes up to Billy Ray, and says, I love Miley. He was sweet and told her “I will tell her.” She will be telling that story in her 80’s or at least when she decides Miley Cyrus is passé.

After their segment with Shannen Doherty who was there to promote her new reality show, “Shannon Says”, Kathie Lee and Billy Ray came over to each of the kids to run through the segment. I just love Kathie Lee. She really knows how to make children feel welcome, she asked each of their names and what they were going to do. Just sweet.

After the segment, because the show is live, they are on a tight schedule, so getting a photo in 30 seconds was a piece of cake. I must admit Kathie Lee was just so willing to do it even though the director was like 30 seconds that’s it.

And here is the segment. All the kids were just too cute including my daughter, of course who got to play her game with Billy Ray and high five him at the end. Another story to be told well into her 80’s.
