Are you looking to be wowed by an old school vaudeville and magic show,  then check out The Illusionists – Turn Of The Century show now playing at  Palace Theatre.

About The Illusionists -Turn of the Century

The Illusionists – Turn Of The Century centers in a time when “conjurers” as they were cold back in the day were the true rock stars of the day unveiling never-before-seen experiments drawn from a treasure trove of long-forgotten mysteries.

What makes the show unique is that the audience is invited to discover first-hand the spectacles that transform stage entertainment from  over 100 years ago with a cast of world famous magicians playing incredible characters, each of whom embodies a magical great of the past.

The Illusionists – Turn Of The Century cast features recently crowned runners-up in NBC’s 2016 “America’s Got Talent” competition The Clairvoyants (Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass); Dana Daniels (The Charlatan); Charlie Frye (The Eccentric); Mark Kalin (The Showman); Jinger Leigh (The Conjuress); Justo Thaus (The Grand Carlini); and Rick Thomas (The Immortal), joined by returning audience favorite Jonathan Goodwin (The Daredevil).

As with any show of this kind, every conjurer brings their own style to the audience from The Clairvoyants (Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass) guessing what’s in your bag (and getting it right) to the death defying Houdini-like act of The Daredevil (Jonathan Goodwin) to the hilarious act of The Charlatan (Dana Daniels) and vaudeville act of The Eccentric (Charlie Frye.)

If you have a  cynical, nothing phases me teenager like I do, you are always shocked that they can laugh and be wowed by anything.

All I know is that my daughter kept looking at me with those I can believe they did that eyes and without a doubt I heard her laughing all through The Charlatan (Dana Daniels) act  and his pet parrot Luigi and was thoroughly impressed by his magic wizardry. I agree that he was both really funny on top of being a top rate magician.

This is one of those throwback shows that will make you go “wow”, “how did they do that?” and thoroughly be entertained. I highly recommend The Illusionists Turn of the Century as a show for ages 5-6 and up.  And no you will enjoy the kid sans kids.

The Illusionists Turn of the Century is playing through January 1, 2017.

Learning Magic from the Pros

Before the show, we had the chance to meet some of the performers and learn a few magic tricks. My daughter had the thrill of learning how to balance a newspaper from Charlie Frye (The Eccentric). I think we were both amazed that she could pick it up so quickly. And she also learned how to make a quarter disappear from Jinger Leigh (The Conjuress).

Disclosure: NYC Single Mom received tickets to the show to facilitate this review. Opinions are enthusiastically 100% my own.
