Girls vying for one man’s attention and finding ever lasting love is the basic premise of The Bachelor. And I can’t forget the Red Rose that is so synonymous with show. Admittedly, I am not a watcher of The Bachelor although it’s hard not know some of the more “famous” Bachelors (Juan Pablo anyone!) That all said, I was really looking forward to our interview with THE BACHELOR Host Chris Harrison because I really wanted some insight into the show and what makes it tick especially as we head into Season 20 of the show which premieres today MONDAY, JANUARY 4 at 8/7c.
Prior to the Q&A with Chris, we were able to get a preview of Ben Higgins, this season’s Bachelor, the handsome and charming small-town guy from Warsaw, Indiana who was on last season’s Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe.
Having seen the preview was a great introduction to get the questions rolling for Chris. It was refreshing to hear Chris’ very open attitude about our questions telling us in the last 15 years, I have been asked everything.
He explained that The Bachelor is not about drama but that casting director is actually just looking for people with a good story. Let’s face it, even I have no interest in watching people with a dull story.
And the main purpose of the show is again not drama, “Our main goal is to end up with a happy couple.”
One behind the scenes tidbit that never occurred to me with shows like The Bachelor is how the contestants are indeed living in a fish bowl but that they are not privy to outside information. And all the women have to focus on is The Bachelor. “The Bachelor creates a fish bowl environment but the emotions are real.”
Social media has had impact on the show mentioning that You can’t control the spoilers. Wish they wouldn’t get out but they do.
5 Fun Facts and Behind The Scenes Tidbits
- The show was been around since 2002 but really exploded in Season 2.
- When the show first started, Chris used to hung out at the Bachelor house but has since stopped.
- The contestants actually dress themselves and do their own hair and make- up.
- There might be contestants with an ulterior motive but he said “You can’t fake your way through this.” Eventually you get shown for who you really are.
- Since his divorce, he is a better listener, friend and a better host. And yes, he would consider being The Bachelor but would pass since he is an Executive Producer after all and totally engrossed in the running of the show.
During our photo op with Chris (how does one pass up getting a Red Rose), I admitted that I haven’t watched the show since probably Season 2 but I would give the show another viewing.
Ben Higgins is Season 20’s The Bachelor. It is counter-intuitive from the screening that Ben who is a nice small town guy, has great parents who have been married for years and handsome has a problem finding love. On tonight’s premiere episode when Ben prepares for the night of his life, meeting 28 beautiful bachelorettes, Chris offered one tidbit to the season that Ben has a vulnerable side to him with issues he has to deal with. I can’t wait to find out!!
