Port Discovery Children’s Museum (35 Market Place, Baltimore, Maryland), voted one of the best children’s museums in the United States by Parents magazine offers three levels of hands-on exhibits and ever-changing programs for kids ages birth through 10. As you enter The Port Discovery Children’s Museum, you are met with a mini-Soccer field and 3.5 story Kid Works and you can see how it has received so many accolades. The Kid Works offered my daughter a climbing experience like no other. There are entrances and exits on all three floors which kept her occupied for quite a bit of time before she moved onto the next exhibit, Wonders of Water with it’s Bubble Hoop. In essence, you stand in the middle of a circle and make bubbles that surround you. How different and fun is that?
Another favorite, Miss Perception’s Mystery House allows kids, 6 and older use all their senses to pick up clues and solve the question of where the missing Baffeld family is. The mystery house is expertly designed with old records, 50’s fridges, off kilter rooms, and lots of fun noisy clues.
Tiny’s Diner was another favorite exhibit with my daughter and every other child who came in. In fact, it’s the exhibit my daughter had to be talked out of at the end. The diner has a retro 50’s feel complete with a jukebox, authentic booths and barstools. All the kids loved serving the adults meals with pint sized dishes, food and utensils. There is even a menu parents can order from so the kids can serve you your meal. Too cute and fun for all.
That is only a tiny sampling of what is available for kids of all ages. Definitely allow at least 2-3 hours to get through it all and go early to allow enough time for other Baltimore attractions after you have finished.
