Pete’s Dragon Bryce Dallas Howard Interview
As part of the Pete’s Dragon Red Carpet Event, we interviewed the Pete’s Dragon cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, Oona Lawrence and Oakes Fegley. Our first interview was with Bryce Dallas Howard who stars as the Forest Ranger who discovers young Pete in the forest on one of her daily runs.
As with most interviews, there is always the anticipation of waiting for the actor to come into the room. You can never tell how they are going to react when they see a room full of mom and dad bloggers. When Bryce Dallas Howard entered the room you could tell she was so excited to see us. The smile you see on her face was so genuine. If you watch any of the entertainment shows, the actors literally go from one interview to the next so it was so nice that she acknowledged ” you are the mommy bloggers, right” and was so complimentary acknowledging what we do and the importance of the information we provide to our readers. Thanks Bryce!
For Bryce, filming Pete’s Dragon in New Zealand was a full circle moment. She reminisced about how she had gone to New Zealand as a child for the filming of Willow (her dad Ron Howard directed the movie) and how thirty years later, her kids were on set during the filming of Pete’s Dragon.
Bryce told us that when she heard about the script, she was the one that sought out the script ou of curiosity because of her love of the 1977 film. Then she read it and thought it was so beautiful, reminding her of the Disney films that she watched as a child.
When discussing her rapport with Oakes Fegley who plays Pete, she mentioned how family friendly the set was given all the cast that brought their kids along. She described it as “traveling circus” and that it felt like a family early on since there were so many kids on set including Oakes and was just like her experience being on the set of Parenthood. I love when actors give you a glimpse of their personal lives on set.
If you star in a movie with the legendary Robert Redford, you have to ask the question right “What was it like to work with Robert Redford?” Her enthusiasm and awe of him was quite evident.
She described having these long awesome conversations with him. I mean it’s less a conversation and more just me peppering him with questions.”
Fun Fact: I loved her comment “he has the most incredible head of hair” and “he never dyed his hair.”
Her favorite scene from the movie was riding the dragon!! This is Bryce at the premiere of the movie.
Discussing the magic and mythology of the film that includes a CGI dragon in a live-action film, she said that it does something for kids. Her favorite question to be asked after a screening, are from kids who ask her “what was it like working with Elliott or where is Elliott right now?” She definitely treasures those questions and keeping the magic alive especially for kids.
Are you curious how she felt about seeing the movie for the first time? Bring the tissues. Bryce was crying early on like in the first five minutes of the movie. Her reaction definitely caught her off guard.
