Over the summer, my daughter tried out the Oasis Day Camp – Central Park. There is also an Oasis Day Camp Downtown which I opted not to do because I thought the Central Park location would be a change of pace for us Downtown folk.
I will admit that my daughter was somewhat hesitant about going to a new camp since her camp experience last year did not go so well. I did try to ally her fears by telling her I had actually spoken to the Camp Director and another Oasis Day Camp mom (who raved about the camp).
I was worried about my daughter but not really. Well let me say that from day one, my daughter was so excited to tell me about her day. From the morning cheer with all the other campers and counselors to the daily swim to the all the activities she participated, my daughter was on truly happy camper.
During her two weeks at Oasis Central Park, she hiked through Central Park to the swimming pool where she swam almost every day which for my daughter is pretty much the only reason she is happy to go to camp. In addition, the campers had a field trip to Randalls Island which she raved about playing mini-golf (who knew there was mini-golf on Randalls Island) and let’s talk about the Talent Show. The Talent Show sounds so “Camp Rock” cliche but OMG, she loved playing the drums or should I say “bucket drums.”
All in all, she had a fantastic time and asked to go back. That is one quite endorsement. From a parent’s perspective, I could not have asked for more, a happy camper. I will also say that while I only met the counselor at the orientation I never felt I could not get in touch if I needed him since he gave out his number plus I appreciated that Julia the bus counselor was so sweet and always called if the bus was going to be late or in fact early. I do think that Oasis does an amazing job of hiring attentive and personable counselors.
Want to here from the happy camper, check out my daughter’s thoughts on her experience.
