Yes, its true, I finally made it to the Today Show as part of the segment Five Minute Fix: How to Lose a Decade in Five Minutes and styled by the coolest chick, Amy Tara Koch. Amy is the fashion trend reporter for NBC, author of Bump It Up Style, a cool fashion guide for pregnant women.
THE FITTING
A week before the show I met with Amy and let me say is without a doubt, fashionably cool, tiny (what the hell is she? a size 0) but SOOO nice, funny and complimentary. Really!!, I had no expectations but never once did I feel like, good grief, how did this happen? She really wants you to look better.
Amy brought a whole host of stuff for all the models. You can see from the rack that it’s filled with a gazillion choices. And if you can’t tell but it also served as my dressing room. The first time, I was naked in a conference room. Welcome the glamourous world of modeling.
Before the fitting, Amy and I had discussed my wearing leggings which I am a big fan of wearing. Let’s face it, dresses seemed to be cut too way above the knee for my taste but if you pair them with leggings, problem solved. During the fitting, I tried a ton of tops and shoes which none worked. We pretty much had a game plan for the shoe except, no shoes or top.
CAR SERVICE PICK UP
On the day of the show, The Today Show sent a car for me. How nice, right especially since it was scheduled to pick me up 6:45 am. I was not looking so hot since why would you, no make-up, hair pulled back. Both hair and make-up is all done for you at the studio.
SECOND FITTING
I arrived at NBC Studios where I had to try on more shirts, shoes and accessories. We settled on the perfect shirt and shoes and then was whisked off to hair and make-up.
HAIR AND MAKE UP
The hair stylist spent a ton of time on my hair which is funny since I literally had just gotten it done, the day before but when he was done, quel difference. Too cool for words. He literally made my hair sleek and straight, Amy’s suggestion.
The make-up artist was amazing, she actually gave me a tutorial which I think was unusual or she felt bad for me. How old I am that I don’t know how to buy or put on make-up. She did give me a few major tips especially for HD – use Covergirl Natural Luxe, blend and layer and don’t use heavy foundation. The opposite of what I thought to do. For my lips, use a pencil to outline my lips, blend and cover with a gloss. She actually did my brows which looked amazingly different, who knew brushing and filling a tad under my arch would change my look and a little under eye cream.
The WALK –THROUGH
For the record, I will say that the Today Show is a well-oiled machine. Because it’s a live show, every little thing is timed to the minute.
Once we were finished with hair and make up, we walked to the green room where we waited some more and then were walked to Today Show studio where the director gave us our cue which was basically, walk in, stop at the X and leave.
THE SHOW
I was the second model to go on, walked on, thanked Hoda and Kris and off I went. What was on for 20 seconds maybe? Hoda did compliment me.
Then it was over, they escort you out of the studio and literally back outside.
I did try to get a photo opp with Kris Jenner but she was being led away by the Today Show staffer and of course, no photo opp with Hoda because she was still taping.
Next time, right.
But what an experience, from beginning to end.
