Notre Dame de Paris, a Catholic church built from 1163 to 1345 is located on the Île de la Cité in the fourth arrondissement and is considered one of the most famous and recognized churches in the world. Of course, it was a must see for my daughter and me.
Notre Dame by Day
Notre Dame has many interesting things to look for from the gargoyles and statues on the roof to the beautiful stained glass window to the flying buttresses (probably the only thing I remember from my college architecture class) and the front doors and gates.
We did not have a chance to see the amazing views of the Île de la Cité, the 17th century Emmanuel Bell and of course the gargoyles from the roof view since the lines were so long but I wished I had made the time.
By the time we reached Notre Dame, my daughter needed a break so we headed to the park behind the church which has a tiny little playground. She pretty much spent some much needed running around time playing and swinging on the swings.
Notre Dame de Paris at Night
One activity I recommend is visiting Notre Dame at night. The church offers a night show every Thursday and Saturday that includes images projected onto the church walls. tTalk about a treat and a novel thing to do with your kids. What could be more scary than being in a old church with shadows being cast from the light illuminating from the show’s image. My daughter thought it was amazing and scary. And it’s free but be forewarned the night show is definitely more of a history lesson but not matter, it’s worth staying up late to see.
Check the website for on the schedule as the night show only runs during the summer and fall months.
Have you ever visited a church at night?

We had our honeymoon in Paris and I still can’t believe we didn’t pay a visit inside the Notre Dame. We did admire it from afar while on an evening cruise along the Seine. It was beautiful!

Wow! Paris is on our list. France is on our list! I really want to go to Provence. We went to Italy a few years ago and I want to go back there, too. We didn’t make it very far south. Great pics! Thanks for sharing your trip!
