Happy New Year to a fantastic and amazing 2013 to you, your family and friends. 2012 turned out pretty well for me so I am looking forward to 2013. My daughter and I spent New Year’s Eve with friends and then headed to Central Park for the Emerald Nuts Mini-Marathon that begin at midnight. Yes, there are people in New York who actually run and I am assuming don’t start the night drinking before they start racing.
I thought it was a great way to ring in the New Year with a commitment to fitness. I love when you see a marathon and you get caught up in the spirit of the event and say insane things like “let’s run this next year” and we all agree. The only one who could actually run is my daughter who spent most of the night running along the race route. I refuse to make that commitment because I liked just walking around the park at night which I will admit as a New Yorker I would not do unless there was a concert going. Central Park at night is dark and I think scary.
And if you want to experience a spectacular Fireworks display then it’s worth it alone to be in Central Park at midnight on New Year’s Eve. It’s less crowded and the fireworks display was so close that my daughter was freaked out that the sparks would actually hit us.
Happy New Year!!

Yay for the marathoners. I love fireworks displays but have grown to question them when I learned about their price tags. With so many hungry people, I’d much rather see the glow of a hungry child when given a dinner.
