The New York Aquarium is located on the iconic Coney Island Boardwalk right and is oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States. Recently, we had a chance to visit the New York Aquarium which has been around since 1896.
We have not been to the aquarium in a few years and I was happy to see it’s is up and running given that Storm Sandy really damaged the aquarium. While parts of the aquarium are still being repaired there is still plenty to keep the kids occupied and enjoyed revisiting the exhibits.
4 Fun Things To Do at the New York Aquarium
Conservation Hall Exhibits
Take a trip through various parts of the world from the Coral Triangle of Fiji to Lake Victoria. Your kids will be memorized by all the creatures of the sea they see.
Sea Lion Celebration at the newly remodeled Aquatheater
Here’s an opportunity to see the multi-talented sea lions that can crawl like a caterpillar, bark on cue and and back bend like a gymnast. This sea lion show is always a delight for kids of all ages. At the end of the show try to move to the front row, so your child can “meet” the sea lions as the trainers come around.
Outdoor Spaces of Sea Cliffs
Who doesn’t love to see penguins? Our personal favorite. The Outdoor exhibits features sea otters, penguins and sea lions. You have be patient sometimes to get a good look but it’s worth it to be that close.
Enjoy spending time at the New York Aquarium when you visit Coney Island, you and your kids will have a great time.
