Moving Tips For a Stress Free Move
One of the most stressful and time consuming activities is moving to a new home. I remember the last time I moved being truly painful and a time consuming activity. That said, I took away numerous moving tips that will help me for my next move.
If you are you planning a move in the near future, definitely review the following Moving Tips for a Stress Free Move.
11 Moving Tips For a Stress Free Move
1. Start cleaning out closets and cabinets in advance before starting your packing.
- This is the perfect opportunity to get rid of stuff you don’t use and streamline so you don’t have to take it with you to your new home.
2. Start packing way before moving day.
- Do not wait until the day before the big move to pack. It’s likely you will need additional boxes or packing material which you will have to run out to buy which will take away from your moving time. I suggest packing over the course of the few weeks before the move.
3. Color code your boxes for each room.
- Unpacking will be much easier for the movers or you if the boxes are color-coded so you can easily identify the moving boxes by room.
4. Save money by finding free boxes at the grocery stores and online.
- If you order a lot from amazon.com, start saving your boxes in plenty of time before you move. Of course head to your local grocery store for free boxes.
5. Use packing materials you already have such as suitcases or carry on bags.
- Suitcases are perfect for transporting items, especially things that are heavy or awkwardly shaped.
6. Pack an overnight bag to use on the first night.
- Definitely set aside a bag of key essentials you will need for the next few days like pajamas, underwear socks and your toiletries. No one wants to be looking for a toothbrush at the end of long day of moving.
7. Keep important documents with you.
- Keep a file of important documents with you while you move so that they are less likely to get lost in a box or suitcase.
8. Pack electronics in one box and use ziploc bags to keep all the plugs and charging cables together.
- Definitely label all the bags.
9. Plan out a floor plan before you move noting where the furniture/vases, etc. should go
- This definitely will make the first few days easier if you have mapped this out in advance.
10. Hire professional movers to do all the heavy lifting. This is a personal choice dependent on your budget.
- This definitely eliminates the stress of having to do it all yourself and having friends help.
11. Investigate the phone, internet and cable service provider such as Verizon Fios. Verizon Fios has made the set up or transfer of your phone, internet and cable service easy, whether you are new or existing customer. Visit Verizon Fios to see if the service is available in your new neighborhood. And if you are a new customer, Verizon Fios offers a chat service so you can get all your questions answered way before you move.
