As a single mom, I am constantly on the go from the minute I get up at 5 am to when I put my teenager to bed. Can you imagine all that happens in between? From walking my daughter to school, taking the bus to work, sitting all day at the office and then stopping by the grocery store on my way home for dinner ingredients, my life is go-go-go.
I am sure your day to day activities are as equally busy as mine and like me you are looking for a routine that is as seamless as possible. As if that is not enough of a busy life, for some of us, lower back pain stops us in our tracks. And that is the case for me. Along with all my day to day craziness, I am constantly picking up, cleaning up around my apartment, all of which contributes to lower back pain.
Ever since I started suffering from lower back aches and pains, I have been looking for a way to alleviate the pain. For this reason, I was very interested in trying Aleve Direct Therapy. The device is designed specifically for temporary relief of pain associated with sore and aching muscles in the lower back due to strain from exercise or normal household and work activities. Sounds about right for my needs.
I tested out the Aleve Direct Therapy device that uses TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.)
It sounds pretty fancy but in essence it is therapy that uses electrical stimulation to relieve pain and block the transmission of pain. It also may stimulate endorphins, the body’s natural pain-reducing chemicals. The Aleve Direct Therapy device is so different than what I am used to. It’s pretty simple to set up. After putting the batteries in, you apply the gel pads to the device.
Both steps were pretty simple to execute. Here is where it gets a tricky. Turning on the device, I placed the device on my lower back where the pain was emanating. Then you turn on the remote control and use the +/- buttons to increase or decrease the intensity of the stimulation.
This took me a couple of minutes to get right. The first time I did it, I could feel the stimulation and it was just a weird first feeling. Okay I admit, I felt nothing at first and started pressing the + button really fast. Don’t do that! Just press the + button slowly and the stimulation will begin. And just relax.
The treatment lasts 30 minutes and comes in 3 stages.
- Stage 1 is 5 minutes of high frequency stimulation that initiates a feeling of pain relief by suppressing the transmission of pain signals in nerves. I didn’t feel any pain in my nerves during Stage 1.
- Stage 2 is 20 minutes of low frequency stimulation that initiates an increased endorphin release. This felt like someone was tapping on my lower back. And this stage I enjoyed the most because of the light tapping and stimulation
- Finally, Stage 3 again like Stage 1 is high frequency stimulation which is supposed to maintain a feeling of pain relief.
During the 30 minute treatment, I especially enjoyed the middle stage with its gentle tapping sensation on my lower back. After the treatment was completed, my lower back felt sooo much better.
What I liked about using the device was once I figured how to use the remote control, it was so easy to use for my next treatment.
Another feature that I liked about the device is that I could actually wear it during work and no one was the wiser. I was wearing a print dress so even if I went to a meeting, no one would notice it. That said, I would just use it at your desk.
All I can say is if you are having lower back problems, definitely consider trying the Aleve Direct Therapy TENS device with its waveform technology. Your lower back will thank you for it.
Aleve Direct Therapy can be found at major stores in the Analgesics aisle near other topical pain relief products and is also available at online retailers.
