With Helen Mirren’s latest film 100 Foot Journey (stay tuned for the review) arriving in theaters August 8, I had the opportunity to enjoy a cooking lesson at the famed Le Cordon Bleu at their Los Angeles location tasting and cooking a meal inspired by the movie. What a thrill the experience was given the reputation of the school and that this was my second lesson having had the joy of attending the Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
In keeping with the theme of the movie “Every bite takes you home”, I am reminded of home and memories of my youth from a favorite meal that my mom’s Sukiyaki, Japanese dish of beef and vegetables. These sushi is easily accessible at the supermarket but when I was growing up, finding ingredients to make Japanese dishes was a big deal. I have fond memories of mother-daughter trips from our Northern Virginia home to the one store in Washington, D.C. that sold Japanese products. So when my mom made Sukiyaki it was a big deal made only for special events like my birthday. The smells from my mom cooking this special meal is a scent that I always have and brings me back to when I was a kid.
Le Cordon Bleu Facility
After touring the facility, it was all business learning how to make our dinner, Parisian Mumbai Chicken Salad inspired by the movie, The 100 Hundred Foot Journey.
I paired up with my blog husband Mitch @gaynycdad to prepare the ingredients for our salad which was super easy to make. The salad included mangoes, apples, marinated chicken, mixed greens with a vinaigrette dressing topped with crunchy walntus and naan croutons (stay tuned for the recipe.)

The chicken salad seems simple enough to make and absolutely delicious. I can not wait to make this for my family. The Indian spices of cardamon really made the marinade totally unique, very subtle but not overpowering.
