Like so many people, my family loves Italian food. So when my sister and nephew came to visit, we had to enjoy an Italian dinner in Little Italy. Taking them La Mela located on Mulberry Street would hit the spot. I had been to La Mela earlier in the year and found the dishes absolutely delicious.
La Mela has been around for 25 years so you know it’s good if it’s been around that long. What I loved about it was comfortable and homey feel of the place.
We opted to order a few dishes for our party of five. Admittedly, the adults wanted to go with the prix option but we knew the kids would not eat the antipasti or the mozzarella and tomatoes. Darn!!
After much discussion, we let the kids choose two of the dishes. My daughter who loves chicken alfredo insisted that be one of the dishes and my nephew kept saying I want meat (hilarious!!)
We settled on calmari, caesar salad for our appetizers followed by chicken alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs and steak and mushrooms. Sounds like a lot and it was but boy was it delicious. Everyone including the kids were very happy.
The kids were amazed at the size of the meatballs.
While we were waiting for our food, we were serenaded and had a fun time singing That’s Amore. Okay, the adults had a blast all the while embarrassing the kids. And my job is done!
Sadly, we were quite full and passed on dessert. Next time!!
