One Direction without a doubt is the hottest band in the world. And like any tween girl, my daughter is totally into the band and rambles on about each of them incessantly. A bigger fan could not be had that is for sure. I for one can only pick out Harry Styles and only because he went out with Taylor Swift.
So when I was invited to a press event this weekend to interview the band, I thought what an amazing opportunity for my daughter. Well, not so fast. The band changed the date of the press event to coincide with my daughter’s Rock Concert.
Now of course, I being the bad parent asked, “You can skip the concert and go to the press event.” Seriously how can we miss this event!
She being the good kid I raised said “No, I am the drummer. Who will keep the beat?” I think the boys of One Direction would appreciate her sentiment of not letting her mates down. That’s what being in a band is all about. So slap on my wrist for choosing boy band over band mates.
So she got over that moment until her band mate asked her to go see One Direction perform at this Wednesday’s America’s Got Talent show at Radio City Music Hall.
UGH!! Are you kidding me? I prayed the show was happening in the morning. Don’t they tape those shows early!!! When I found out it was at night I told her, “Sorry, we can’t go, we have plans.”
OMG, tears and pretty much a public temper tantrum ensued all happening after we had just seen a screening of the movie One Direction: We are US (stay tuned for the review), so her emotions were so on edge.
Literally, she could not even contain her tears, that she broke down at least three times on the way home.
She kept asking me, “Why we can’t go, what could possibly be more important that going to the show!”
“I can’t tell you, it’s a surprise.” You see my daughter has no idea, that we are going to Paris and London.
I know she doesn’t believe that my surprise could be better than meeting One Direction but as much as I am disappointed not to meet the band either, I think she will get over her tears on Wednesday.
Until then I have to deal with her breaking into uncontrollable tears for the next 5 days. So yes, my life will be a living hell.
And if you want to know want kind of wacky parent I am, I bet my daughter that I would buy her an iPad Mini if my surprise is better than meeting One Direction. It’s amazing what you will say when your daughter is having a public meltdown to get them to calm down.

I know exactly how you feel especially with One Direction! The only thing that gets me through is the fact that I was the same way with my mother when it came to Backstreet Boys! I would have meltdowns if I didn’t get that awesome imported CD. Have fun on your trip and I’m sure she is going to love the surprise! BTW very creepy comment below!!! I think I’d report that to law enforcement online! Better to be safe than sorry!
