Home Again Starring Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon stars as Alice Kinney who is recently separated from her husband, (Michael Sheen). Alice decides to start over by moving back to her hometown of Los Angeles with her two young daughters. During a night out on her 40th birthday, Alice meets three aspiring filmmakers who happen to be in need of a place to live. Of course true to the trailer, she meets hottie aspiring director Harry (Pico Alexander). Her mother played by Candice Bergen loves the new guys who are so thrilled to be meeting her because she was the star of Alice’s iconic late director father’s movies and talks her into letting the guys stay in her guest house temporarily.
This is where we fall in love with the guys for different reasons and providing an unlikely new family unit until her ex-husband shows up. This is probably the boring part of the movie but her relationship with her husband has to be resolved, right.
There were two reasons I loved the movie – 1) The beautiful montage of Candice Bergen during her hey day which is an great introduction to younger audience that Alice’s mother was a babe and iconic actress in another era and 2) the story within a story of the boys trying to get their movie made. They made a short that has caught the attention of a big talent agency but they really don’t want to make their movie but use it as a vehicle for horror producer who wants to not make a horror picture. Very funny and I think shows how crappy movies get made.
If you are Nancy Meyers movie fan, you will love all the real estate porn and showcasing the privilege lifestyle Alice leads. The flip side is that is the knock on Nancy Meyers movies is that the characters are true 1%ers. I am fine with that because I love Alice’s house and her lifestyle because hey who doesn’t aspire to that fantasy.
HOME AGAIN is a story of love, friendship, and the families we create is now in theaters.
