Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney continues dominating the box office two weeks in a row grossing $91 million in it’s first 8 days.

As you would imagine, Gravity takes place in space. The two main characters, Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) and Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) are shuttle astronauts on a routine space walk when all goes wrong.
Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) plays a medical engineer on her first shuttle mission and Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) is on his last flight before he retires. If you know anything about this movie, the story line is that astronauts working outside the shuttle and then disaster strikes as they unmoor from the shuttle sending them spiraling out of control into space.
Well, let me say, I did know the plot and have read a lot of the behind the scenes articles on the making of the movie but nothing prepared me for the ride of a movie lifetime.
Sandra Bullock as the first time astronaut is amazing. I am a big Sandra Bullock fan and happy for her Oscar for The Blind Side but this movie will surprise you in her acting ability where she is pretty much alone holding your attention and leaving you on the edge of your seat as she tries to survive. Plus there are elements of the movie that come as a surprise that really hits a nerve.
For once in a long time, 3D works in a movie and actually enhances the story. Trust me as the astronauts spiral out of space, you are transfixed and freaked out as they are.
We saw this movie in IMAX 3D and let me say that it was worth every penny and this is the type of movie that IMAX was made for. Gravity filled the screen and Alfonso Cuarón shows you what movie making is all about.
I took along my 10 year old daughter who insisted on seeing it. So for those with kids who are thinking about taking them along, be forewarned that the movie is intense, scary but not violent scary, includes curse words (the kind of curse words are in line with use when one is in distress or upset) and spoiler alert (death and one scary scene that will make you gasp especially kids.)
Do I recommend Gravity? Yes and Yes and Sandra Bullock will blow you away. And while George Clooney time in the movie is minimal, his character is essential.

I was on the fence with this movie. I do like both actors but I really did not know much about the story line. After reading this maybe I’ll check it out.
Its worth seeing in the theatre. On DVD it will not have the same impact.
