We celebrated my daughter’s godmother’s (she has two) birthday over the weekend. Her choice for our dining pleasures is “The Grocery Restaurant” located in Brooklyn on Smith Street. For non- Brooklynites, Smith Street has really “grown up” adding new restaurants and retailers to the neighboorhood, making it a must see destination.
The Grocery Restaurant – don’t you just love the name, so not pretentious or snooty like many Manhattan restaurant.
When you arrive at the restaurant, you may wander by it because the facade looks like a struggling and non-descript storefront. When you walk in, there is soothing color on the wall and
Usually at these birthday lunches, we ordered the prix menu but since we are a group of meateaters, we passed on the vegetarian prix fixe.
Before we ordered, we had to order champagne to get the celebration started. There were two choices that seemed to appeal to us – grass fed beef burger and bbq sandwich with pulled pork and coffee BBQ sauce.
Both were amazingly good. The pulled pork tasted nothing like pork which I am assuming that was the chef’s intention.
Since this was Saturday afternoon, there only a few tables that were occupied, so we really took our sweet time, enjoyed great conversation and savored a great meal.
Of course, now I am curious and want to try to restaurant at night.
