One of my goals for 2013 is to get healthier and be more fit which means working out more or at least walk/run more. Fitness experts say that everyone should at the minimum walk 10,000 steps a day which luckily I live in New York City which for the most part makes this an achievable goal. I say that not really knowing if I actually do achieve that daily goal.
Which brings me to a cool new bit of technology that surprisingly works to help me achieve my daily step goal, The FitBit Zip. The FitBit Zip is a pedometer to the nth degree, it tracks your steps, distance, and calories burned – then voila automatically syncs the data to your Fitbit account through your computer, select smartphones, and tablets. After using the FitBit for a couple of weeks, I really have grown to rely on it and totally think it is the coolest gadget to keep me on goal.
4 Reason I love about my FitBit Zip:
- FitBit Zip’s Compact Size – Because it is so small, weighing just 3 oz, you can clip it almost anywhere without it detracting from what you are wearing or it looking bulky. For me, I clip onto my bra and no one is the wiser. And for those that care, the FitBit Zip comes in a variety of colors ( black, white, blue, green and pink.)
- Syncs wirelessly & automatically to my iPhone – While the zip syncs to my Mac, I love that I can view tmy daily steps and calories burned on my iPhone throughout the day. There is something about being able to actually see how far you have walked during the day to keep you motivated. “And if I am know I’m behind in my daily goal, I just walk a few more blocks or climb more stairs in my building.”
- FitBit Zip is rain and sweat-proof – And yes, it really is rain proof or should I say water proof. I accidently washed my FitBit the first week I had it and totally freaked out but I pulled it out of the washer and tapped on the screen and it was back online. Impressive!
- Daily Food Diary – Thanks to Fitbit’s tools, I can log both my meals and my water intake (I need to drink more water my doctor keeps telling) which keeps me honest during the week (not so much on the weekends but I’m trying…) You can also log your workouts, and weigh in.
I really recommend the Fitbit Zip Wireless Activity Tracker if you are interested in truly useful tool to get fit and healthy. Up next is finding Twitter friends I know are using the FitBit so we can motivate each other to stay on track. I love seeing their twitter posts on how much they have walked. Talk about motivating.
