For the last few weeks and for the next few weeks, our lives are consumed with the upcoming English Language Art (ELA) and Common Core Math tests. What makes 4th grade more stressful is that based on how the kids score on the test impacts their middle school choice. Yes, non-New Yorkers, there are no neighborhood middle or high schools.
What really irks me about the 4 Grade test is not only the pressure for the kids to do well, gazillions of hours prepping the kids for the test but the types of topics on the test. The kids have barely mastered division, they have to be able to answer questions on fractions, decimals and geometry. Plus there is six days of testing. Good God!!
I can’t wait for this to be over so we can go through this all over again next year but at least, it won’t impact our middle school choice.

Wow, that is stressful. I don’t get the obsession with standardized tests nowadays.

Good luck getting through all that testing!
