Living in New York City means, I walk everywhere and take public transportation. Recently, I am starting to notice that I can’t whip down those subway steps as fast I used to and it’s because I am starting to realize that my knees are not the knees of a millennial.
I feel that this is slowly affecting my daily routine from working out to taking in the local farmer’s market with my daughter to going on press trips like my trip to Pixar studios. Certainly, the last thing I want to happen is not being able to enjoy activities with my daughter. Parents of teenagers know that they don’t want to hang with us as much as they used to so it’s important to me NOW to spend the time with her. Luckily she still gives me the time of day. And frankly, I like getting out and about with her because sitting around doesn’t sound like a lot of fun for a teenager. Exploring the city together offers the opportunity for us to chat and bond with out our devices. Super important in my book.
Plus one of my many goals this year is to improve my health and that means physical activity, what better activity than walking!
As someone who has never had surgery and thinks it’s a growing possibility, seeking treatment is something to avoid because you don’t know what the doctor will recommend.
While my pain threshold is not yet unbearable, I am in the process of exploring my options namely scheduling an appointment with a physician to discuss my symptoms. I have no plans to move out of the city so I would like to continue to enjoy living life as always have and walking in New York City is number one on the list.
