When it comes to doing schoolwork at home, all the parenting experts say that you should clear out a space where your child can do their homework in peace and quiet.
I being the diligent parent went out and bought an expensive desk making sure the shelves were stocked with cool homework accessories, an expensive pencil sharpener and colorful binders. Hah!!! My daughter has sat at the desk only a handful of times.
It’s not that she refuses to do it, she just doesn’t feel comfortable doing her homework sitting at a desk. So instead of forcing her to sit at a desk or the dining table, I just let her do her homework wherever.
She has literally done her home lying on the floor (hard wood floor I might add) and a for awhile in a box. Yes, a box. Don’t ask me why. Today it’s the bed.
Getting my daughter to do homework is enough of a struggle on a daily basis and the weekends it’s just torture. At this point, I just have to focus on her just getting it done and less about where.
Being a parent sometimes mean being flexible and listening to your child and not to so-called parenting experts.
Where does your child like to study?

It’s wise to make a separate room for the kids. Why you are using hashtags in the title? It doesn’t make any sense at the first look.

My grandkids do some of their homework on the bus ride home, so they will have more free time. They also do it in the playroom at their karate school, and if they still have any to do we sit around the kitchen table…all are not so quiet places but it works for them – they are all good students.

Ugh. The homework issue.
I too brought an expensive desk for this reason and my daughter and she never uses it. Thus, my daughter has done it at the kitchen counter, in the living at the coffee table, at my desk, on my bed and in her bean bag chair.
An old friend who reared 6 kids gave me a really good piece of advice: she paid her older kids to do homework with the younger ones. “No parent should have to endure that!” she said.
Great idea. Only problem is my kid is an only child. Which begs the question: Must I have another just to get homework completed on time?
