5 Cleaning and Organizing Tips from Katie Brown and OxiClean

March 7, 2012 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment

OxiClean Event at Colicchio and Sons Hosted by Katie BrownLifestyle Expert Katie Brown is someone I have following for years so I was thrilled to meet her in person at an OxiClean event held at Colicchio and Sons. As I am completely disorganized all the time, I am always looking for organizing tips and certainly cleaning tips and hoped she would provide me some useful information.

Now, I have seen a gazillion OxiClean ads but how shall say this diplomatically but I have always been somewhat skeptical of their stain removal claims. As I watched, one of OxiClean’s experts remove wine stains from a light colored carpet  in front of our own eyes, I was totally impressed that she removed it. The key to stain removal is blotting,  who knew. The one thing she did mention is that after you remove the stain, it will look like it actually left a mark but “aha” it actually means that the rest of your rug is in fact dirty and by removing the stain it also cleaned the rug at the same time.

Here are 5 Organizing and Cleaning Tips that I learned from Katie Brown and OxiClean:

1. Label and Group Your Kids Things in An All Purpose Container:
Katie showed us the perfect basket/tote/storage bins called Space Age Totes from uline.com (they come in 6 colors and you get $6 for $66). You can label them for each child or put them in your mud room or I am planning to use them as a catch-all bin for my daughter’s things near the door.

2. Make Cleaning Supplies Accessible – Katie recommended keeping buckets in individual rooms but for us apartment dwellers, one bucket with all your tools is perfect. I loved that she literally had every little supply on her bucket which for me would save my all the time, I spend looking for some cleaning implement and never finding it.

3. Pre-Soak Stained Clothes Overnight – Yes, some of you may know this already but I am late to the game. I literally throw my clothes in and hope for the best. Using OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover to pre-soak is all you need and add OxiClean  to the wash for an added boost. I had no idea that  OxiClean is a oxygen-based stain fighter that’s chlorine free and color safe and that it is activated by water and works to break up the stain by “boosting” your laundry water pH to improve your detergent’s cleaning ability.

4. Develop a Weekly Cleaning Chart – By breaking your cleaning chores into daily chunks, it doe not seem so onerous and overwhelming.  With my cluttered mind, there is something to be said about actually taking 5 minutes and developing  a visual aid that helps you feel like you have accomplished your tasks.

5. How to Remove the Cloudy Film From Glasses – While Katie showed us decorating tips, she showed us how the removal phosphates from dishwashing detergent results in cloudy glasses and introduced us to OxiClean Dishwashing Booster, which Oxi- Clean designed especially “boost” the removal of cloudy film, food particles, spots, and streaks that detergent alone can leave behind in your dishwasher.  Call me impressed.
