Captain America Civil War Review
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR starring Chris Evans as Captain America opens today. It’s been a year since I had the pleasure of attending D23 Expo when stars of the movie Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie appeared at the Expo to introduce the 2016 Marvel line up. I was thrilled then and even more thrilled now since I have seen the movie.
Without a doubt, this movie will do well at the box office just because it’s a superheroes movie and a Marvel movie. I have pretty much loved every Marvel movie that has been released even the ones I was skeptical of like Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.
What makes Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” the must see film of the year is that it’s not following The Avengers all for one mantra.
Captain America Steve Rogers (Chris Evans aka Team Cap) continues in his role as one of the leaders of the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team.
This new status quo splits the Avengers into two camps —one led by Captain America Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and one led by Iron Man Tony Stark (Robert Downey,Jr. aka Team Iron Man) Mind you, there is a lot of political discussions that are mounted by both sides but without it where would the conflict be right?
6 Reasons Captain America: Civil War is the Must See Movie of the Year
1. The introduction of two new characters Black Panther and Spider-Man. Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) introduction is pitch perfect, just enough to whet our appetite for the stand-alone movie. And yes, who isn’t excited that there will finally be a Marvel movie starring a Black superhero. The internet lit up at the trailer introducing Spider-Man and the young actor who plays him, Tom Holland is also pitch perfect.
2. The dialogue – This is a bit wordy than most Marvel movies but I liked it. It provides context to the plot and frankly makes it a much more engaging movie than a just a bunch of action scenes strung together.
3. Chris Evans – Yes, Chris Evans is nice to look at along with his bulging muscles is perfectly cast as Captain America has really progressed as an actor in this genre. I think that is hard to do in action pictures because so many fans want the story lines to match up to the comics, just love all the action and gadgets, acting be damned. He really adds depth in a role that otherwise he could call in and get his very big paycheck.
4. The female stars in the film including Scarlett Johansson (“Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow”), Emily VanCamp (“Sharon Carter / Agent 13”), and Elizabeth Olsen (“Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch”) doing battle, enough said. I of course ask, where is the Black Widow movie?
5. The action – how could there be a Marvel action picture with no action. There are definitely some great action sequences most notably when the two factions square off.
6. More Emotion – actually emotion in general.
Do I recommend this movie? Yes, Yes, Yes. These movies just get better and better. Captain America:Civil War offers all the action you are looking for, conflict, thought provoking ideas, humor, and emotion. It is rated PG-13 which I think is safe for kids 8 and up.
Forget the boys, watch Scarlett Johansson (“Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow”), Emily VanCamp (“Sharon Carter / Agent 13”), and Elizabeth Olsen (“Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch”) doing battle.
