Interviewing Bethenny Frankel, star of Bethenny Ever After, a couple of weeks ago was a hoot, she was just as frank and funny, talking about Bryn Hoppy, her litte cutie pie daughter and husband Jason Hoppy, as you see on her television.
Bethenny Ever After, the latest installment on Bravo has been playing for a couple of weeks and I caught up with Bethenny and her supporting cast: husband Jason Hoppy, infant daughter, Bryn Casey Hoppy, their baby nurse, Gina,
I will admit that from all the New York Housewives, I run the gamut on my like/dislike of Bethenny – from loving her “I would never say that let alone on camera, she has no filter” comments to the WTF “you’ve gone too far, there is a better way to handle the situation.” But let’s face it, of all the housewives, she is the only one who has actually been moving forward in her career, from moving into a luxury condo in Tribeca (trust me, this is a big move from her small one bedroom uptown) to growing her Skinny Girl brand to publishing more bestselling books.
- She is at this point so comfortable in front of the camera it’s almost comical. Her crazy comments to the Rachel Ray male producer is just nutty. I am happy that filmed his follow up facial reaction and comments, although he could have shut her down immediately by saying he was married but he didn’t.
- Her staff is just plain kooky and dysfunctional
- Seriously, how does Bethenny find the most inappropriate baby nurse in New York City. Any other family would have run in the opposite direction. Gina, the baby nurse is running around in her robe, filmed sleeping and then hitting on the Rachel Ray camera guy was just odd. And the whole baptism/blessing event at Gina’s church in Brooklyn was just nutty. Yes, families get close to their nannies but that’s after years of knowing them, not a few weeks. I had a nanny for only a few months and trust me as much as I loved her and still talk/see her, I would never feel comfortable walking into her church sight unseen. That said, Bethenny and Jason’s interactions with Gina makes good television.
- Naming her assistant Julie as the Bryn’s godmother – not sure about this decision.
- Not sure what is happening with Nick, food blogging guy. I remember when the guy came for the original interview and thought she should have hired him but she went with the good-looking straight guy. Shlubby food guy actually knew his stuff as evidenced by the episode where they run into him at Pop burger (truly yummy burgers, I might add.) And Bethenny admitted that she should have hired him. I am sure Bravo and her decided that good looking guy would make better tv which was not true. The guy turned out be an idiot.
- Bad idea having your husband work in your business. The kiss of death in my opinion. That’s like having your girlfriend or boyfriend in your video (Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck) or confessing that your spouse is the one on Oprah (Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck.)
- Baby proofer comes to the apartment and literally tells her not to let Bryn play with pots and pans because she may want to climb a chair pull the pots down from the ceiling. What kind of wackiness is that??? Yes, baby proofing is important but not with advice like that. Bethenny is neurotic enough to believe her entire apartment is a death trap although she does have a lot of choking hazards lying around.
Will I keep watching Bethenny Ever After, heck why not, it beats watching the Kardashians.
Disclosure: NYC Single Mom has no affliation with Bravo or Bethenny Frankel, Jason Hoppy or Bryn Casey Hoppy. In fact, I liked to say way back when, when asked to interview Bethenny, I was denied. One day, I will have my photo op with Bethenny Frankel.

I loved Bethenny from the very first season of the RHONY! She’s so out there sometimes, its to be admired. I have a bit more filter than her but I love how she just puts it out there. Plus you can’t deny it…the girl knows what she wants for her business.
It would be awesome to meet her but I’m sure I’d be star struck and not know what to say! 🙂

re: babyproofer and pots/pans issue.. I think the babyproofer is concerned that a baby will pull pots off of the stovetop, not off of ceiling.
