Blue Water Grill located in Union Square is one of the most popular seafood restaurants in New York City and for good reason. The restaurant offers a varied menu in a modern atmosphere that is sure to please every palate.
I have decided that now that my daughter is a teen that there are restaurants and experiences I want to make sure she takes advantage while she is old enough to enjoy it and appreciate it.
And dining at the Blue Water Grill is one of the many New York restaurants, I think every New York kid should try. We recently enjoyed a Sunday Brunch which was a perfect opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal and have a nice mother-daughter time.
Admittedly, I would have preferred dinner but let’s be practical, the average entree is $25 plus dollars. And I love my daughter but dinner at the Blue Water Grill should be reserved for adult friends and family.
That said, Blue Water Grill has a delicious brunch menu that runs the gamut from traditional fare like Roasted Mushroom Omelette, Eggs Benedict, Huevos Rancheros, Great Lakes Cheddar burger to the seafood dishes such as Maine Lobster & Shrimp Roll and Seafood Cobb Salad. Appetizers included a host of Sushi Rolls, Beet salad, and Seafood Tacos. And I can’t forget the sides from charred broccoli to bacon.
Blue Water Grill Brunch
I did have my heart set on a sushi roll for an appetizer but the sushi chef was not in yet so we settled for Seafood Tacos (sorry no pictures, my daughter grabbed one before I could take the pic.) So let’s say this, my picky teen daughter who does not like fish nor beets thought the Seafood Tacos were absolutely delicious and yes, even the beets that she poo pood were a hit. She said that the beets made the tacos taste better. What!! Of course, it helps that taco included guacamole which was spot on delicious. Totally recommend the Seafood Tacos. I know we both could have eaten three all by ourselves but alas there is the main meal after all.
Honey Glazed Doughnut French Toast
My daughter could not resist ordering Honey Glazed Doughnut French Toast. Talk about a treat of undescribable description. It was delicious and seriously, a foodie’s delight for anyone who loves french toast and glazed doughnuts. Such a yummy combination and the sauce is Nutella. Goodness, my daughter loves Nutella so this dish made her so happy. She let me (operative word, “let”) have a couple of bites and I agree with her assessment, it’s a must have order. Now if you don’t want to order it yourself, I recommend either ordering a dish to share with the table or talk someone into ordering it because the Honey Glazed Doughnut French Toast dish is not to be missed.
Eggs Benedict with Neueske’s Bacon
I went back and forth between ordering a Seafood Cobb Salad or Union Square Vegetable Chop (I know a salad for Sunday brunch) but alas I went with the Eggs Benedict. Forget your idea of the classic Eggs Benedict dish. The Blue Water Grill is made with a buttermilk biscuit (perfectly flaky and delicious) and Neueske’s Bacon (never heard of the brand but it was super crispy and flavorful) along with classic hollandaise sauce. Totally worth it. My only complaint is they really skimped on the bacon. The dish was served with potatoes which I really liked as well and was perfect to soak up the egg yolks and hollandaise sauce.
If you are near Union Square, definitely chow down for brunch at Blue Water Grill! And it is a popular restaurant so book a reservation and I would also suggest for weekend brunch to go between 11:30 and 12:30. We went at 11:30 and the restaurant was pretty empty but diners started arriving around 12:30. To view the menu and for directions, visit bluewatergrill.com.
