Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is on track to be one of the highest grossing movies of all time (And it is fantastic by the way.) My daughter will not be going to see it for three reasons, she has only see the first movie, I think it’s inappropriate for an 8 year old and most importantly, she hasn’t read the books. I refuse for her to see the movies without reading the books. The movies are fantastic but let’s face it, the screenwriter can only do so much in 2 and half hours, a lot is left out. For me and the generation of kids who grew up the book, it is a wonderful series not too be missed.

I know this shouldn’t make me bonkers but it does that my daughter has yet to finish the first book in the series Harry Potter in the Sorcerer’s Stone. In my humble opinion, she chooses books that are too easy for her reading level just to meet her daily reading quota (yes, I make her read 20 minutes everyday.)
Because I am type A – mini-Tiger Mom, I made a deal (a deal with the devil sort of) with my daughter. When she finishes reading the book, I would buy her the Lego Harry Potter Castle.
When I proposed the idea, my daughter was so gung-ho telling me, “I am going to finish it this weekend”, yeah right. She read two chapters but hey, she is reading almost a chapter a day which for me is good progress. She definitely will finish the book by the end of July, so I am happy. Now, how will get her to read the next in the series Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? P.S. Don’t tell my therapist, not sure if she would approve, this has moved past the sticker reward system.
I say whatever we can do, as parents, to encourage our kids to read (bribery or otherwise!) is fantastic. Great job, mom!

Those books are definitely ones all kids should read.
I love the books and think every kid should read them.
Don’t have kids yet so can’t speak to the positive/negative of bribery. However she is reading and there is no real negative to that.

I do use bribery, but on big things like reading, not everyday things kike picking up after youself.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell
to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this
