Apple introduced the wireless AirPod headphones in 2016 and I pretty much ignored them. I have no idea why since I have coveted wireless headphones ever since I saw Ryan Reynolds in the opening scene of Definitely, Maybe put on a pair of wireless in-ear headphones and walk from midtown to his daughter’s upper west side school (as an aside the movie is great and the opening scene is an ode to New York City.) At the time the movie came out, I am pretty sure those headphones did not exist or if they did there were super expensive.

But I digress, I am here to discuss my first pair of AirPods.
Six Reasons I love my AirPods
- No Wires – Duh!! Frankly, I was fine with wired headphones. What was the big deal in my opinion with wired headphones? So they tangled up when you threw them in your bag or put them in a headphone case or spend minutes untangling them every time you want to use them. The price of doing business as they say. Well, it did start becoming a problem when I started using reading glasses with a strap. Yes, I am that person. So imagine reading glasses straps combined with wired headphones. Not a good combination and frustrating experience spending your life untangling one from the other!! You just take the AirPods out of the case and pop them in your ears!!!
- Wireless Charging Case – One of the reasons I hated competitive wireless headphones was the charging bit. With the AirPods all you have to do is insert them into the charging case and “magic”, just let it charge!! The green LED indicator on the front of the case lets you know that your AirPods are charging. And when you’re away from a charging mat, you can use the Lightning port to charge.
- Compatible with your iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac. Compatible is the only word I want to hear with my Apple family of products.
- Easy Set Up – Apple is known for its easy setup process and the AirPods are no different. After a simple one-tap setup, AirPods are ready to go!! They’re automatically on and always connected. AirPods can even sense when they’re in your ears and pause when you take them out (this really works!)
- Change is Easy – To adjust the volume, change the song, make a call, or even get directions, simply say “Hey Siri” and make your request. You have the freedom to wear one or both AirPods (This is great if I am shopping and waiting in line and need to be able to hear my name being called or have to interact with another human being!)
- Great sound – I almost forget that the Apple AirPods sound great.
Let’s get to the brass tacks and be honest! I will admit I am a bit afraid they will fall out of my ears (mine fit perfectly by the way.) I am not saying it won’t ever happen (hey things happen) and again this is me, I don’t wear them walking around New York City but use them at the gym or when commuting or at home. This is my normal routine anyway as I don’t like wearing headphones while I walk because it blocks out noise or puts me in a zone when I feel I should be aware of my surroundings. I like to hear that police siren or fire trucks are coming or some random wackadoo is cursing uncontrollably. Of course, that is why people use headphones in the first place. Again that is my personal preference!
I do love my AirPods and recommend them highly!
Disclosure: NYC Single Mom received a pair of AirPods for review. Opinions are 100% my own.
