I live in a small one-bedroom New York City apartment. Like New Yorkers with small apartments, I buy furniture that does double duty like a side table that I store things under it or lots of bookcases with space above for boxes or put your bed on risers to store more stuff underneath.
Believe me, it’s all a balancing act!! This means I am constantly organizing, cleaning and getting rid of stuff. See my Tips on how to organize your closet to see what I mean.
So for the last few years, I have been wanting to refresh my bathroom and kitchen. I do not call it a renovation because frankly to renovate my kitchen would cost me at least $20,000 plus dollars, yes $20,000 plus dollars. I know this for a fact because I priced out how much it would cost to take out the cabinets and buy new ones, have it refitted to buy appliances I actually want. That’s only is $15,000. And to take down a wall to open up it to the living room is another $5,000. And let’s not forget that I can live here so add in a hotel!! You get the idea. And don’t even ask about the bathroom which is the smallest bathroom on the planet which would be another $15,000.
So I am doing the minimal work like having the cabinets refinished and repainted along with painting the kitchen. Having new wall outlets with USB chargers installed. Actually add 2 new wall outlets because I feel like my entire apartment is going to blow up from all the extension cords.
And in the bathroom, putting in a nicer vanity, having the tile regrouted and the walls painted. Seems minimal but it all means the stuff stuffed away has to go somewhere. And that somewhere is the tiny living room. It’s funny and not!!
Did I mention there is a bathroom vanity in my living room? I have no idea why they did take it out but I was not happy!!
Anyway it’s almost over and I get back to putting everything back!!
How was your week?
