I think there is not one day that my teen daughter and I don’t have an argument about something. Most times, it starts early with the morning wake up.
But today, we are dealing with the latest school shooting in Parkland, Florida. I will not get into the politics of the situation because I do have an opinion but my sight is not political in nature so I will keep it to myself.
All I know is that we as parents do all we can to protect our children from the first day they come home, we strap them into their car seats, we follow them around after they take their first steps, we hold their hands as they cross the street, we freak out when we finally let them cross the streets by themselves or walk to their friend’s house.
I survived September 11 and I have so many horrible memories from that day but what I still remember are the voicemails that people left their loved ones.
Here we are in the life of cell phones and the text messages from kids inside the school are what haunts me but it’s the thought of the parents whose text messages and voicemails that are not answered.
So hug your kids today and tell them how much you love them!

I love this a reminder and really needed it today! As a mom of two teens, this tragedy is a wake-up call for sure!

I know I shouldn’t have to have a tragedy remind me to hug my child but I am really trying even after bad days to hug her and tell her I love her. Even after we have our rows texting I will leave it with hugs and kisses.

Some days it’s hard to remember to hug them because they are so (fill in expletive annoying and hard to deal with but I am trying to start the day off on a good note with a hug and supportive comment.
