A BAD MOMS CHRISTMAS is the sequel to the very successul Bad Moms that was released in 2016. In the Christmas themed sequel, our very under-appreciated and over-burdened moms, Amy (Mila Kunis); Kiki (Kristen Bell); and Carla (Kathryn Hahn) band together to rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas.
And if creating a more perfect holiday for their families wasn’t hard enough, they have to do all of that while hosting and entertaining their own mothers (Cheryl Hines, Christine Baranski and Susan Sarandon.)
By the end of the journey, our moms will redefine how to make the holidays special for all and discover a closer relationship with their mothers.
I really enjoyed the first movie starring Amy (Mila Kunis); Kiki (Kristen Bell); and Carla (Kathryn Hahn). I had hopes for Bad Moms Christmas but like so many sequels it suffers from original movie beats expectations and next thing you know there is a sequel. I did love that they focused on the Christmas season and that yes (I will admit this) that the season is filled with anxiety to make it the perfect Christmas. Conceptually, I liked the mothers visiting to fill in the back story of the “Moms” but it misses on this angle. Without it being a three hour movie, I would have loved that they did a montage of Moms and how they fared since the first movie instead it just launched into their moms arriving.
That said, there were definitely LOL moments but so much of the movie was predictable. My other “ewww” this is not funny at all moment and frankly was racist was Amy’s mom (Christine Baranski) was constantly getting her boyfriend’s name wrong, forgetting that she had met him or confusing him as the help. Her boyfriend is played by Jay Hernandez (the hot widow from the first movie.) Seriously, how does one forget Jay Hernandez. And the fact that no one addressed this especially Amy really bothered as well.
