Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman
There has been much anticipation, excitement and trepidation since it was announced that a Wonder Woman stand alone movie was going to be made and directed by a Woman. Girl Power indeed!
Women cheered and said it was about time, men who apparently seem to tink they own the comic book genre and accompanying movies were either happy or pissed off.
Well, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Entertainment has produced a truly epic action adventure starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen and Robin Wright.
About Wonder Woman – Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
6 REASONS WONDER WOMAN IS WORTH SEEING THIS SUMMER
-
- Gal Gadot (Diana/Wonder Woman) – Along with the fact that I just love saying her name, say it with me “Gal Gadot is Wonder Woman”, this ex Miss Israel, ex Israeli soldier is plain perfect in the role. Her charisma emanates from the screen and in every scene she commands the screen. She exudes loyalty, passion, wonder and kills it in all the action scenes. She is role model for both little girls and boys.
- Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) – Chris Pine did an entire skit on SNL about how people confuse him with the other Chris’ (Chris Hemsworth (Thor); Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Chris Evans (Captain America). I have never confused him. I have followed his career since it was announced he would play James T. Kirk in JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot and he proved in Hell or High Water (See it!) that he is not a one note action hero actor. Regardless that he has the handsome Hollywood look, he is well cast. The chemistry between Gal Gadot and him is pitch perfect. Their story makes the movie much more interesting that just focusing on the action and their winning against the villains.
- Diana aka Wonder Woman’s Origin Story – I am big Greco-Roman Myth reading geek so I am thrilled that the early part of the movie focuses on Diana (aka Wonder Woman), the daughter of Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons (Connie Nielsen) and their life on the Amazon island. The back story introduces the Gods Zeus and Ares which I hope younger viewers will want to read more about
- The Action Sequences – As a fan of the Marvel movies. Patty Jenkins (yes, a woman director) does the action sequences justice from the practice fight scenes showcasing the Amazonian warriors especially Antiope (Robin Wright), the young Diana’s aunt to the big finale. And let me say, I love Robin Wright, she is rocking it as the fiercest Amazonian warrior and Diana’s trainer.
- The Fish out of water twists and humor – I think it would be insane not to have Wonder Woman not react to the wonders of the “World World I era London.” Seriously she’s been raised on an isolated island, how does she have any idea what women wear in the early 1900’s or the taste of ice cream. Both she and Chris Pines have some pretty funny lines which add to movie.
- Steve’s Sidekicks – the movie would be pretty boring if there were no sidekicks to add richness to script and have Diana and Steve interact with. Of course, I appreciate that these sidekicks are a diverse crowd that include a Scottish sniper (Ewen Bremner); a Native American tracker (Eugene Brave Rock); a Middle Eastern soldier (Said Taghmaoui) and a feisty secretary (Lucy Davis).
DC Comics for once has a movie I can get behind and whole hardheartedly recommend. Wonder Woman combines a captivating, charismatic lead in Gal Gadot, with humor, a bit of romance and tons of action. You will love this movie regardless of your gender!!
Power of a goddess. Heart of a hero. Gal Gadot is #WonderWoman, is in theaters NOW – GO SEE IT.
