Benedict Cumberbatch Stars in Marvel Studio’s Doctor Strange
5 Reasons That Doctor Strange Is Must See Viewing
1.Opening 3D Sequence – If you have read my movies reviews over the years, you know that I screen the movies in 3D and I always note that you should save your money and see the movie in 2D. It finally happened, a movie that is worth seeing in 3D. The opening scene is done really well, designed with 3D in mind so much so that I was in complete awe. And no, it will not have the same effect in 2D. Spend the money!! Spoiler alert: it’s like watching an Escher painting come to life.
2. Doctor Strange’s locations– The movie was shot in London, New York, Kathmandu (Nepal) and Hong Kong and it shows. You can not always shoot in Toronto or a studio lot and make it realistic. The movie’s locations definitely adds to the realism of the movie that no studio lot can provide especially the Kathmandu scenes, it’s like you are going on Doctor Strange’s journey with him.
3.Staying true to the details of the Dr. Strange comics – The silhouette of the Cloak of Levitation
is very important in the Marvel comic book world and makes an appearance in the movie. The creation of the cloak was the biggest undertaking for Alexandra Byrne’s costume department, utilizing the skills of 20 people to do the task. Because of the different uses during filming, 18 cloaks had to be made. Another nod to the comic book is the Sanctum Sanctorum’s address, 177A Bleecker Street which took roughly 10 months to finalize the design and details of the Sanctum Sanctorum foyer.
4. Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange – There is no doubt that the casting of Cumberbatch raises this movie coolness to another level. Yes, it’s a very good script and has lots of action but his acting is what makes it a much better movie.
5. The Entire Doctor Strange Cast – The entire cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), Rachel McAdams (Dr. Christine Palmer), Benedict Wong (Wong) and Benjamin Bratt (Jonathon Pangborn) are amazing actors who truly elevate the movie script, acting and believability. Mads Mikkelsen (Kaecilius) who excels at playing scary villains is truly icky in Doctor Strange. You know when he appears, only bad things will happen. And wow! Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One was just phenomenal bringing a talent like no other actress to a role that could have been very jokey.
Do I recommend joining Doctor Strange on a dangerous and mind-bending journey? Yes, Yes, Yes!!
