The Cleveland Cavaliers are the 2016 NBA Champions
52 years that is how long there has been a championship in the city of Cleveland. 1964 that is when my late father’s beloved Cleveland Brown won the N.F.L. championship.
The Cleveland Browns have had winning teams over the years but would lose at the last minute bringing nothing but disappointment to an entire region.
And the Cleveland Cavaliers, losers forever so much so I never cared to bother even looking their stats up drafted the highly touted LeBron James. He then left the team to join the Miami Heat where his team won two NBA titles. Who can blame him really, wouldn’t you want to actually play for a winning team? I got it when he left, more money, winning.
The flip side is that he left a region hating him. I think they burned his figure in effigy that is how much he was hated. And he was from Akron, Ohio. Yikes!
After winning two championships in Miami, he came back for one reason to bring a championship to Cleveland. Plenty of athletes think they can bring their talents to win a championship and plenty lose that bet.
Did I believe James could bring it home to Cleveland? No! One man really can not do it all in my opinion and come to a losing team.
And this year, the Cavs were down 3 games to 1 to the highly favored Golden State Warriors and their very popular star Steph Curry. I thought Cleveland will not do it again. Get all the way to the championship again and disappointment.
Watching the game last night which was the 7th and final game in those last few minutes, I was praying holding my breath thinking we’ve been here before so close and then disappointment but then it happened.
Cleveland Cavaliers became the NBA Champs. LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers brought it home.
I feel like my dad is looking down from heaven with a smile on this face. If you are not a sports fan, you can not understand what big deal this. 52 years is a long time to be a losing sports city but no more, you can not call Cleveland a loser sports time any more.
I am planing to savor every word, every story, every interview, cry through it all. And I plan to watch the parade on Wednesday.
Here’s to you Cleveland!! And King James!!
