Disney’s THE BFG Directed by Steven Spielberg
Disney’s THE BFG arrives in theaters July 1, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth. The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg – finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic “The BFG” to life.
Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s THE BFG tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG (Mark Rylance), while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part.
The BFG played by Mark Rylance is one of the best reasons to see this movie. His way of speaking and vocabulary will entertain and bring a smile to your kid’s face (Gobblefunk Dictionary will offer up answers to your child’s questions on the meaning of The BFG’s words) Unlike the scary giants like Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement) who are twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming and you like Sophie will grow to love this gentle giant who is just interested in eating Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. And you will find it amusing how he collects dreams and sends them to children.
I will admit that the movie may not be as well known as Dahl’s other well known work Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it’s a sweet story that will keep your children entertained during the summer months.
And check out who makes a guest appearance in the movie (hint the Queen) in this fun trailer.
THE BFG hits theaters everywhere on July 1st, 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
