They say finding a job in New York City is much easier than finding an apartment. That was the case for me when I moved to New York. It took me months to find an apartment that wasn’t a hovel, had the bathroom in the kitchen or had a dorm size fridge. And what did I end up with, a one bedroom with no closets. Yes, no closets. I had to store all my stuff in the kitchen cabinets. I don’t know why but the kitchen had tons of cabinet space. And my bedroom – I was able to fit a full-size bed in the room but with just enough space to walk along the bed from the kitchen to the bathroom. And storage, what a joke. You wonder who buys those risers that give you extra space under your bed. That would be me. How do you think I stored my off-season clothes, all in those huge plastic bins you see advertised.
Of course, when you are in your twenties, you can live with anything and anyone but let’s face at some point, which wants to live like they did in college. Now, looking for an apartment is much easier now because there is much more choice than when I moved to New York.
Living like a grown up is a good thing right and having a great manhattan luxury apartment is a must when you get out of those early years living in New York. I know that after September 11, lots of companies did not allow you to have packages delivered to the office which means living in a doorman building is a must. When I lived in my one bedroom walk up apartment building, I worried about whether I would receive my packages or not and many times, I never received packages because I missed the FedEx or UPS driver. And with my busy schedule who has time to track down packages. Another benefit to luxury apartment living is having dry cleaning and laundry service right in the building. Yes, its more expensive but I view my free time as extremely valuable especially with a child. Why spend more time running errands if you don’t have to and it’s conveniently located in the building. Seems like a no- brainer.
I wouldn’t trade my years in my third floor walk up but I much prefer where I live now.

Definitely one of my favorite things about living in a luxury apt in nyc. I no longer have to worry about the deliveries of my clients’ images sitting out in the rain or snow. NOw I know they will be safe, sound and dry!

Is that the truth? Sometimes, I would come how and the ups guy would just leave it on the doorstep and you prayed that a neighbor would bring it in or someone wouldnt take it.
UGH!

Ugh, I totally know what you mean! We don’t have a doorman, but USPS has the key to our atrium and is able to leave packages in there for me, and it’s sooo helpful!
But if it’s FedEx, UPS, or DHL I miss it and have to track it down… and boy, is that a drag! I would love a doorman!!! Hopefully next apartment. 🙂

I don’t have a doorman, so for now I have everything shipped to my parent’s place because they are retired and almost always home at UPS delivery time.

Oh my goodness! I can only imagine living in limited space. That’s why I prefer the country life! LOL! 40 acres of land sometimes feels cramped for us.
