Don’t judge a book by it’s cover as the saying goes. Dave Bautista is case in point. Bautista is a former professional wrestler, winning the WWE championship twice now playing Drax, a physical brute out to see revenge against Ronan, who killed his family in Marvel’s hit movie, Guardians of the Galaxy.
Certainly, when Bautista walked into the interview, without saying a word, he projected an imposing presence but wow, as he talked about auditioning for the role which took about four months plus a screen test, his demeanor was completely the opposite. This is certainly the reason why the Bautista eventually won the job. Like his character Drax the Destroyer he has the strong, physically imposing and frightening side but when you dig deeper, he has a sensitive side.
So which comic books did Bautista read when he was a kid? Batman, no surprise but he was also a fan of Aquaman.
What came across in the interview was Bautista awe of how popular the Marvel movies are globally. He spoke about he wasn’t sure how the film would do since the Guardian comics are not that well known but was in awe when did press in Singapore. He expressed almost a “shock” and see hundreds of people lined up for movie that even hasn’t opened yet. “It’s so overwhelming.”
As with every Marvel movie, all the characters have an action figure and guess where Bautista keeps his, “kitchen.”
I will say that Mr. Bautista is an integral part of the band of outlaws and he can’t wait to see what the future holds since he plans to go for the more character driven roles rather than the action hero roles.
