During my Guardians of the Galaxy and ABC Family Press Junket, we were treated to an extended sneak preview of Big Hero 6. Having seen the poster of Big Hero 6 which is a robot named Baymax, who let’s face it looks like a rounder Michelin man, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Now having only seen an unfinished sneak preview (about 30 minutes), I so can’t wait for this movie to be released so I can see the entire movie. Behind the scenes fact about movies being previewed months in advance is that there are actually unfinished scenes where characters and scenes are grey. Cool, right.
Even though I saw only a shortened version, in my opinion, Disney has another hit on it’s hands. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The Disney team has truly created two unique worlds with unique characters that is sure to appeal to kids of all ages and I mean adults, too.
Blending Tokyo and San Francisco into a mish-mash world, called San Fransokyo is ingenious. And I love that the main character, a robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada is Asian American and is surrounding by a multi-culti cast.
Stay tuned for “Big Hero 6,” an action-packed comedy-adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery.
This is one movie, I can not wait to see the entire film from beginning to end. My daughter is super excited as well just from seeing the trailers.
As a bonus, we screened, “Feast,” a new short from first time director Patrick Osborne (head of animation for “Paperman”). What is cool about Disney is that you never know where the next story will come from. I love the idea of the Studio’s Spark program which invites artists to explore their own unique ideas in a month long project that is presented to the Studio team. And of course, Feast was the latest winner.
Feast is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share. This is truly an adorably written and creatively drawn story that will delight and surprise Big Hero 6 movie goers.
