Over the years I have had to travel on business for my job, even traveling to Uruguay for a photo shoot when she was a toddler. In recent years I have added blog trips to my away travels.
Of course, I have felt guilty leaving her but truth be told, I have welcomed the break to actually wake up in a nice hotel room and enjoy a cup of room service coffee in peace.
That all said, I have never missed any important events until now. This week kids in New York State are taking standardized tests in Math.
As you can imagine, kids including mine are nervous. And who wouldn’t be!! It’s nerve wracking to spend so much prep time and studying to have it all come down to 3 days of testing.
This week I’m traveling to a conference. When I booked the conference, the dates for the test had not been set and when they were I told myself she could handle dealing with the test on her own. Plus, she would be staying with another family from school whose kids are taking the same test. I hoped she would be distracted by hanging with friends that she would not notice I would be gone.
I will admit that I do feel guilty about not being there to give her moral support and just hope that all the prepping and previous support stays with her.
I know you aren’t supposed to buy your child gifts to make up for your parenting shortcomings but I have decided that I am going to
Do just that.
Have you ever felt guilty leaving your child to go on a trip? And did buy them a gift to make up for your absence.
