Delivery Man about an underachiever David Wozniak who finds out that he has fathered 533 children from donations he made to a fertility clinic 20 years earlier brings together a unique ensemble of actors – comedy stars from both film and television, internationally acclaimed stars of stage, and a host of talented newcomers – who, together, create a dynamic and realistic chemistry.
Two of those actors include Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation and Zero Dark Thirty) and Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother and The Avengers.)
Chris Pratt plays David Wozniak’s (Vince Vaughn) best friend Brett, a stay at home dad but fledgling lawyer raising four kids on his own. According to Pratt, “Brett is despondent, depressed, fat, at the end of his rope, and buried in the responsibility of having four children. He’s in a bad spot, and he sees the opportunity to represent David in this class-action lawsuit as his last chance to reignite his passion.”
Did you that Pratt was the producer’s first choice for the part and was more or less cast with meeting or auditioning him? And it’s obvious from the film that Vaughn and Pratt bonded on set and in the film.
As you can imagine, Vince Vaughn is such a big star, it begs the curious question of what it would be like to work with someone of his comedic and film stature.” Bratt was very complimentary, ” I feel the same thing. I mean, really I mean he’s
beloved by people, his fans and people because he just seems real. You know, he seems like a regular guy and I think tha the’s everything you would really hope that he would if you’re a fan of his. He’s charming, caring and he’s polite.” Nice to hear, right!
The same for Cobie Smulders who plays David Wozniak’s girlfriend Emma but for her she was tad imitated by Vaughn’s improv style. “I am very rusty and so when I came to this film and met him,he was so supportive, very considerate and very charming. He really goes out of his way to put everyone at ease on set and, and sets the tone for everybody.”
In their search an actress to play David’s girlfriend Emma, the filmmakers were looking to cast an actress who could hold her own opposite Vaughn on both a dramatic as well as comedic level. Certainly, Smulders who is part of the ensemble cast of the CBS hit, “How I Met Your Mother” fits the bill and holding her own especially in some of the more serious scenes.
During the interview, I was reminded that Pratt was in Zero Dark Thirty, a movie I saw and thought was phenemonal (see it please), but Pratt is totally hilarious in Delivery Man is the perfect confidante for Vaughn’s character, he actually gained 70 pounds for the part. In original Canadian version of the movie, his character is actually a big guy which was part of his charm. Pratt admitted that after being in shape for Zero Dark Thirty, his body was ready to gain weight. “My wife (Anna Faris) was in the last third of her pregnancy and a good 20 pounds was probably sympathy weight.”
Interviewing Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders was a lot of fun and funny. I am looking forward to Chris’ next movie, Guardians of the Galaxy and Cobie in the next Avengers movies.
