Celebrating Cabbage Patch Kids 30th Anniversary

September 27, 2013 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Entertainment

Shocking yes, Cabbage Patch Kids is 30 years old! This weekend, my daughter and I attended an event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the iconic Cabbage Patch Kids. To commemorate the occasion, JAKKS Pacific is introducing Cabbage Kids Celebration Kids who are dressed in fun, playful and party themed fashions with brightly colored hair streaks.

Look familiar for those young enough to remember, here is one of the original Cabbage Patch Dolls from 1983. Yikes, I remember the curly hair.

During the event my daughter had so much picking out her very own Cabbage Patch doll,  Riley Molly.

Of course, who could resist not having a picture taken with a huge Cabbage Patch doll. What fun!

Here are 5 Fun Facts about Cabbage Patch Kids:

  3. Over 130 million Cabbage Patch Kids have been ‘adopted’ to date
  4. On October 10, 1985, “Christopher Xavier” was blasted off into space aboard the US Space Shuttle, becoming the first Cabbage Patch kid in NASA
  5. Presidential candidate “kids’ were created in the likeness of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan. The kids were auctioned off on eBay with proceeds benefiting Rock the Vote.

Other Cabbage Patch dolls include Cabbage Patch Kids Babies ($24.99, Ages 3+) who come with either a magic disappearing-milk bottle or food bowl with spoon, and removable bib and Cabbage Patch Kids Cuties ($9.99, Ages 3+) which come in variety of precious animal themes (bear, bunny and kitty.
