Our Thanksgiving began super early (4:30am) when we headed to the Upper West Side to watch the Macy’s Day Parade. We are lucky that B. a neighbor and fellow parent offered us Grandstand tickets. This is one of those, I want to go but I don’t want to go. I don’t know about you but watching the parade on television sounded so good at 4:30 am but I plowed through. I must admit that if she offers us tickets again, I am going to ask for extra. The problem with going to the parade, is that I could not drink coffee or water nor could I leave our seats or my daughter to save the seats so I literally had to will myself awake.
But it was all worth it. In addition to the cool ballons, we were able to see the Fierce Five, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Carly Rae Jepson.

I love the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Years ago I was one of the people working the Bullwinkle balloon! AWESOME fun but actually hard work.

WOW! WOW! WOW! They look huge compared to on TV. My kids would LOVE to have been there…especially for the singing acts!

Did you see us??? You got up earlier than I did!!! I woke up at 3 (stupidly) but didn’t get Max up until 4:45..we got to Macy’s around 5. All hell broke loose there by 5:30. But it was definitely worth it! Kareem…no comment….
Chris…a doll!! My friends stupidly waited until 9 to go!! They couldn’t get into the grandstand. I did see Fran (ps40 Mom) in the crowd. Was shocked that I actually saw someone I knew in the maddness!

Your photos are exceptional…much better than the view on TV. My favorite is “Hello Kitty.”

Since I have lived my whole life on the west coast, I have never seen the parade. I don’t think I have even watched it on TV either. Are the balloons always commercialized?
