Thanksgiving means gathering with family and friends and my little family is no different. Sadly, I don’t have family in the area but certainly have numerous friends who I consider “family” who I spend the Thanksgiving Holiday with. And our group is no different than family and friends who gather to enjoy the holidays. Of course, that means food and lots of it.
Every year, we gather together on Thanksgiving to celebrate and give thanks for our good fortune and certainly for surviving Hurricane Sandy we will give special thanks. As I like to do every year, I am a big ‘sides’ person. Doing the turkey is a huge leap of faith for me, but you can’t really screw up sides and if you make enough of them, everyone, including the kids, are happy.
Along with my green bean casserole, garlic mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes with maple syrup, as part of my Reprogramming America for Fun commitment with Shout®, I am trying to incorporate suggestions from Olympic athlete and mom Jennie Finch that encourages families to live spontaneously and without fear of getting messy. One of her tips is to include child-friendly projects. So taking Jennie’s suggestion, my daughter and I decided that it would be nice to make pumpkin bread for our Thanksgiving hostess. After being in the kitchen all day, wouldn’t it be nice for her not have to make breakfast?
Not only did my daughter and I have a wonderful time bonding while baking, we also created a new Thanksgiving tradition.
But as you can imagine, cooking with a child may be fun but messes do ensue. As a long time user, I love the Triple-Acting Formula of Shout® Trigger which contains stain-fighting ingredients and enzymes to quickly penetrate, break up and remove tough stains. Let me say, it came in pretty handy after our pumpkin bread making session! It was such a life saver with a child who, shall I say, is not the prim and proper type but leans to the tomboy side. And I totally throw in the individually packaged Portable Shout® Wipes when we go out because I can pretty much count on something spilling or dropping onto my daughter’s shirt.
